Animators, or multimedia artists, create special effects, animation, or other visual images for television shows, movies, and commercials.
Animation created with computers are increasingly used in game design, 3-D movies and other special effects. The days when animators used carefully crafted hand-drawings for lengthy animated feature films may have passed, but the attention to detail and understanding of lifelike movement is still required no matter the medium used.
Animators often hold a degree in animation or visual communications. Few people learn animation "on the job", and a bachelor's degree in animation can give you experience with the latest tools and technologies -- imperative for the increasingly technical work of film animators.
As with many other artists, innate talent and creativity are necessary to succeed as an animator.
